Ross Video’s Graphite Scores in Myanmar Soccer

General Aung San Shield Tournament

The General Aung San Shield (formerly the MFF Cup) is Myanmar’s top football tournament and features the Southeast-Asian nation’s league teams battling through knockout stages for a shot at the top prize. This year’s coverage of the tournament was broadcast on national station Myawaddy TV and looked a little different from usual, as the network partnered with regional experts Elevate Broadcast and Ross Video to bring new levels of sophistication to the production. Elevate’s production solution was based around the Graphite – Ross Video’s integrated production vehicle that features a Carbonite switcher, XPression graphics and 28-channel audio engine in one powerful and compact package. As well as being the first use of Graphite in Myanmar, the production also saw the first use of augmented reality on the country’s TV network for a sporting event; an impressive feat given the timescales involved.

The coverage, which concluded with Shan United’s 2-1 final victory over rivals Yangon United, saw Elevate Broadcast work with the production team from Myawaddy TV to create all of the graphical elements for the matches in XPression Studio, including 3D graphics for the opening and match information, and then run the live productions using Graphite. The inclusion of augmented reality (AR) elements into the broadcasts represented a new step for Myanmar Broadcasts and helped improve the overall production values of the matches, making them feel more international in flavor.

Commenting on the tournament, Dennis Breckenridge, CEO of Elevate Broadcast, highlights ease of use as a key factor in the success of the coverage.

“We were honored to work with the organizers of The Aung San Shield and MWD TV in order to help lift the quality and excitement of the football matches with the fresh new graphics approach,” said Breckenridge. “The event was easy to manage because Ross XPression is easy to use – helping us create the graphics for each match as well as manage the on-air elements. With only one day of preparation and one day of training the operators were able to easily manage the exciting elements for the live transmissions.”

Andrew Tan, Ross Video’s Director of Sales for APAC, is similarly satisfied with the performance of Graphite during the tournament.

“Ross is delighted to have been involved in this competition and having the opportunity to create such ground-breaking visuals for the audience,” he said. “The vision and technical expertise on display from the teams at Myawaddy TV and Elevate Broadcast were key to the success. Yet again we’ve shown that the tight integration of our systems can bring about an extremely efficient workflow and enable our clients to create a high-quality production; it’s another great example of what we call Smart Production.”
